About Us

The Pilot House is a community center unlike any other. We pull together social programs, life skills, therapeutic services and support to serve the diverse needs of children, young adults and adults with special needs, to promote their continuing growth and progress. We provide services to children, young adults and adults with Autism, Asperger's, ADD/ADHD, Social and Emotional needs, Sensory Processing Disorders, and Down Syndrome.

At The Pilot House we take pride in our experienced and trained staff which provide high quality and low cost programs that feature a low student to staff ratio. We have hand selected and trained peer mentors within our groups to encourage and model for our students. Our program promotes skill building, self-confidence, self-expression, team building and most of all a place to make a friend!

Our Story

In 2006, a group of parents of children with special needs banded together to form The Pilot House out of need for a place where children with special needs could have the same social experiences as other children. We began our adventure in the basement of Fairfield Woods Middle School where we offered social programs after school and on Saturdays for two years.

In September of 2009, we moved into our home located at 240 Colony Street where we were able to expand and offer more programs and services to meet the growing need.

In 2013, we began our therapeutic horseback riding program which has provided over 1,000 lessons since its inception. This is a mounted horseback riding program for the purpose of contributing positively to cognitive physical, emotional and social well-being promoting strength, flexibility and building of self-esteem.

Due to the need of programs and services for young adults and adults with special needs, in April of 2016 we purchased our farm located here in Fairfield. The Community Farm will provide a community intergraded, hands on work environment where participants will learn aspects of planting, selling their vegetables, working with animals, landscaping, painting and general farm maintenance.
